How Can severe Pain Below The Rib Cage Be Treated?

87 year old male, pain in back under rib, been like this for about 14 mos. has had upper GI, came back with no problems, all vessels have been checked, only carotid is blocked, but not significant. He is extremely tired and the pain does not go away. Heart has been checked, nothing extraordinary. So we have dealt with gastro and heart. Where do we go now?

Hi,

The location and movement of a pain give clues as to what is going on. An isolated bone pain would start with an X-ray or a bone scan. Prostate cancer is fairly common as a cause and is quite slow growing.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Matt Wachsman,
